Main Responsibilities of the Welfare Standing Committee
The Welfare Standing Committee is responsible for overseeing activities related to social welfare and the development of disadvantaged sections of society within the Panchayat.
Its main responsibilities include:
- Providing leadership for the welfare and development of Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and other backward sections of society.
- Supervising and supporting welfare programmes for women, children, senior citizens, and persons with disabilities.
- Reviewing the implementation of social security pension schemes and related beneficiary services.
- Coordinating and monitoring poverty alleviation programmes and activities.
- Promoting women's empowerment and gender equality initiatives.
- Reviewing child welfare, child protection, and nutrition-related programmes.
- Supporting rehabilitation and welfare programmes for persons with disabilities.
- Recommending measures to ensure social justice and equality.
- Examining the selection of beneficiaries and implementation of welfare schemes.
- Monitoring institutions and activities related to social welfare within the Panchayat.
- Performing any other welfare-related functions entrusted by the Panchayat Committee.
